Having experience in the creation of the MiG-25, Mikoyan design Bureau in the early 70-ies began to develop a new interceptor. Production of the MiG-31 heavy two-seater interceptor began in 1979. After the tests, the first MiG-31 began to arrive in the air defense of the USSR in 1982. According to the system of weapons MiG-31 has no analogues in the world. It is able to detect and destroy a target at a distance of up to 300 km, can accompany up to 10 targets, while destroying 6-8 of them. NATO interceptor MiG-31, has code name "Foxhound" ("the hound") - the hound.
