In 1944, the company "bell" began production of a special modification of the aircraft R-63A "Kingcobra" - PR-63 "PinBall", which was used as a manned flying target. The new aircraft was completely covered with armor made of special aluminum alloy. The armor thickness was 5-10 times more than the standard R-63, the maximum thickness of the armor reached the area of the cabin, engine and fuel tanks. All weapons and equipment were removed. The first 5 PR-63 A-11 aircraft were assembled in August 1944, and the first flight of the new aircraft took place on September 1. In total, 337 PR-63 aircraft of various modifications were built.
