The characteristic features of the project were a large relative elongation of the wing and the fuselage of square section and maximum capacity, made of light panels with double skin. The lower surface of the rear fuselage was a cargo door on hinges. For the first time, the Skyvan aircraft took off with two piston engines Continental GTSIO-520 390 HP installed on the wing, but it was envisaged that in the future it will be equipped with turboprop engines Turbomeca. Under the designation Skyvan Series 1A, the aircraft took off in may 1963 with two astazou II engines with an effective capacity of 520 HP
