S. M. 79 was the most successful multi-purpose medium bomber of the Italian air force of the Second world war. Created on the basis of passenger aircraft, the first Sparviero (Hawk) entered service Regia Aeronautica at the end of 1936 years, to support the Italian contingent fighting in Spain on the side of the nationalists. His flight data earned flattering reviews from both sides, success soon led to the conclusion of export contracts.  S. M. 79 served (including as a torpedo) in the air force of Brazil, Yugoslavia, Romania and Spain, some countries used the aircraft until the end of the war. Romanian troops used the aircraft from 1941 to 1944 on the Eastern front, an unprecedented record for the aircraft developed in the 30s. Although the aircraft is known for its characteristic shape with three engines, there were modifications with two power plants, including Junkers Jumo 211D. Despite the version used, the pilots loved this aircraft for the convenience of piloting, and the opportunity to return home with terrible damage to the aircraft had even more. Used Regia Aeronautica (Italian air force)in North Africa and the Mediterranean until the defeat of Italy in September 1943. With the defeat of Italy, the career of the aircraft did not end, it was used by Germany and Italian pilots who fought on the side of the allies.
