Supermarine Spiteful had a rolls-Royce Griffon engine. In late 1942, designers worried a sharp drop in performance at high speeds (approaching the speed of sound). To overcome this factor, which could limit the development of the characteristics of the aircraft, a wing of a more suitable profile was installed on the aircraft (such a wing was used on the P-51 Mustang).
