Westland Whirlwind was a British heavy fighter with two engines. The first single-seat RAF aircraft with two engines and cannon armament. It was one of the fastest aircraft in the world when it first took to the skies in the late thirties. In addition, the aircraft had a very strong, compared with contemporaries, weapons. Despite the success of the aircraft, the project had to be closed due to problems with the engine intake. It was built in small quantity. During the Second world war only two RAF squadrons were flying the plane. In 1943, despite the success as a fighter - bomber, the aircraft was withdrawn from service.
