Object 279 was a Soviet experimental heavy tank developed at the end of 1959. The project was developed as a heavy tank breakthrough in difficult conditions, a special design to withstand the shock wave of a nuclear explosion. Object 279 was planned to be used as a backup tank of the Supreme command.
