Mark IV can be called "the first OBT". About 1200 tanks were built, they participated in most battles on the Western front from the early summer of 1917 until the end of the war, also used in the Middle East. Mark IV is the first tank built using the experience of previous projects, the first tank used massively, in battles really planned around armored vehicles. A large number of tanks were used in design work. To improve the patency of the trenches was tested version Mark.IV TADPOLE. The tests did not meet expectations and the tank was not used in battle.
