Additional Information
the Outbreak of World war II in Europe has forced the US army to admit that it lacks an effective tank force. The design of the M3 medium tank began in July 1940, production began in December, and the first units were put into operation at the end of 1941. The U.S. army needed a tank, armed with 75-mm main gun, and the United Kingdom made an immediate request for more medium tanks. The main design archaically provided for a 75mm main gun on the right sponsor; the second 37mm gun was mounted in a small turret on top, which was a compromise that accelerated the tank's production while the M4 was being developed.
