Additional Information
Infantry tank "Valentine", produced in 11 versions, became the most massive British tank of the second world war. From July 1940 until the end of the war, 8275 machines were manufactured in the factories of England and Canada. The Soviet Union received the lend-lease program and formed the basis for the supply of allied tanks. In total, 3782 tanks were sent to our country, i.e. 46% of their total production.
"Valentayny" was slow, but fairly reliable armored, carrying 60-65 mm armor, connected by bolts. The armament consisted of a 40 mm cannon, a 7.92 mm machine gun and a 50 mm mortar. They participated in the battles in all theaters of war: in North Africa, Italy, Western Europe, Kursk, near Rzhev, in Ukraine. It is noteworthy that the first baptism of fire these tanks were not in the ranks of the British troops, but in Russia. First received a "Valentayny" November 10, 1941 136th tank battalion, he participated in the defense of Moscow on the Mozhaisk direction. The Germans celebrate the first encounter with them in Russia November 25, 1941, i.e. earlier than in North Africa.
