12.8 cm Pak 44 (Panzerabwehrkanone), was a German anti-tank gun used during world war II. The gun was created taking into account the experience of fighting on the Eastern front in 1943. The German army met with the Soviet 122mm guns, resulting in a further request for the creation of such weapons. The designers initially focused on the creation of a field gun known as the Kanone K 44, but the appearance in large numbers of heavily armored tanks such as the is-2 forced the designers to focus on the anti-tank role of this gun.
