the su-15 was created to replace the su-11 interceptor in the early 60s. The su-15 was designed as an enlarged version of the su-9/su-11, but equipped with two engines, this aircraft was faster than any Western model of the time. In addition, electronics, engines and weapons were constantly improved, which allowed the su-15 to remain a worthy high-speed interceptor patrolling the airspace of the USSR during the Cold war. About 700 su-15 were in service by the mid-eighties. By 1993-94, all aircraft were replaced by the MiG-31 and su-27.
