Additional Information
RA-5C was developed in parallel with the A-5B, first took off on 30 June 1962. RA-5C borrowed the design features of the A-5B, such as the "hump" fuselage and large flaps. The main difference between the aircraft was the equipment. RA-5C had a camera under the nose, part of the intelligence modification, and the characteristic design of the chassis. RA-5C entered the Navy in 1964. 43 RA-5C was built, after 12 A-5B, which were completed as RA-5C. After a batch of 43 aircraft, the remaining A-5A and A6B were rebuilt into standard RA-5C. The aircraft was so useful in Vietnam that the fleet ordered another 46 aircraft in 1968, 36 were actually produced. The last batch was equipped with the engine J-79-GE-10, and had a number of small differences from the original RA-5C.
