Marder III was produced in two versions - Ausf.H and Ausf.M, which were collected respectively on the chassis of tanks "Panzerkampfwagen" 38(t) Ausf.H and Ausf.M. anti-Tank self-propelled artillery units were designated 7.5 cm Rak40/3 auf PzKpfw 38(t) Ausf.H and "Panzerjager" 38(t) mit 7.5 cm PaK40/3 Ausf.M. Both variants were armed with guns 75 mm Rak40/3 L/46, the crew - 4 people. Self-propelled Ausf.H ("Heckmotor" - rear engine) fighting compartment was in the middle of the machine, on the Ausf.M ("Mitte" - engine in the middle) - in the aft of the hull.
