KV-85 (Object 239) - one of the modifications of the KV, often perceived by historians of tank as a temporary measure. When the tank was used the chassis of the KV-1S with 85 mm gun D-5T was used on the SU-85 and early versions of T-34-85. The high need for this gun seriously slowed down the release of the KV-85, as a result, only 148 machines were built. KV-85 was produced in autumn and winter 1943-44, sent to the front in September 1943. Release was stopped in the spring of 1944 with the beginning of mass production of is-2.
