the T-72 is a second generation Soviet main battle tank, mass production began in 1970. The machine was developed directly from the Object-172, and has a number of features characteristic of the T-64A. The t-72 was one of the most widely produced tanks after world war II, second only to the T-54/55 family. The basics of the design were used to create the T-90.
