At the final stage of the great Patriotic war, the main Soviet heavy tank was the is-2, created in 1943 by the designers of the Chelyabinsk Kirov plant (ChKZ). In the same year, a new combat vehicle launched into mass production. Until its termination in mid-1945, 3483 is-2s were manufactured, 60 of which were assembled in Leningrad, at the restored Kirov plant.
