2S14 Zhalo-S was first developed in the late 70s. It was designed to keep up with Soviet armored personnel Carriers such as the BTR-60 and BTR-70, and protect them from enemy tanks. To do this, Soviet engineers mounted an 85-mm anti-tank gun on the chassis of the BTR-70. the Weapon was designed for a small caliber MBT capable of engaging NATO vehicles at the time, but the BTR-70's chassis could hardly withstand any incoming damage. The Stinger gun, 2A62, is an evolution of the WW2 anti-tank gun D-44.
