Additional Information
In September 1940, 131 P-40B was produced for the U.S. army to replace the cancelled P-40 base modification. The P40B featured an additional machine gun in each wing, bringing the wing armament to four 7.62 mm machine guns, two 12.7 mm machine guns left unchanged. The same changes did not affect the engine, V-710-33. The first P-40B took off on 13 March 1941. The export version of the P-40B was the Tomohawk IIA, machine-gun armament in the wings was replaced by guns. 110 copies were made for the RAF, 23 were handed over to the USSR and one was sent to Canada to get acquainted with the technology.
