Additional Information
Messerschmitt Me 509 was a fighter project led by Germany during world war II. The prototype was based on the Me 309, the engine of which was located behind the cockpit (like the Bell P-39 Airacobra). The engine Daimler-Benz DB 605B was driven by a three-bladed propeller. The armament consisted of two 13 mm machine guns and two 20 mm guns. The three-post chassis (again similar to the Bell P-39 Airacobra) used on the Me 309, it was decided to keep it, on the Me 509 it worked even better, after rebalancing the machine to the front rack accounted for less weight. (when testing the Me 309, the front landing gear often broke down.) An overview of the characteristic of the cabin so as been a strong point of the aircraft. The project, along with the Me 309, was cancelled. but in Japan, a similar aircraft was built Yokosuka R2Y Keiun (perhaps, although there is no documentary evidence of this, based on German developments and documentation).
