the T-62 was originally conceived as an improved model of the T-55, being essentially a T-55 with a 115 mm smoothbore gun. The T-55 and T-62 used the same caterpillar, engine, transmission, hatches and other devices. The main differences between the two vehicles were the extended hull of the T-62 and the new turret design. A new gun could shoot through approximately 300mm of armor at a distance of 1000 meters. T-62 was intended to add the ability to long-range firing Soviet tank regiments, but in subsequent years the tank performed the same role as the T-55. Despite released in 1960, in order to improve the performance of the T-72, the T-62 is still in service in many armies of the world. Egypt, Iraq and Syria are users of the T-62.
