SU-85 – the average weight of the Soviet self-propelled artillery, belonging to the class of tank fighters. SU-85 is actively and successfully used from September 1943 until the end of the great Patriotic war. Machines were produced at the Ural plant of heavy machinery (Uralmash) from August 1943 to July 1944, a total of 2,337 self-propelled guns were built. 85-mm gun D-5S allowed SU-85 effectively deal with medium tanks of the enemy at distances of over a kilometer and smaller distances to penetrate the frontal armor of heavy tanks.
