In Russia, with virtually no paved roads, thousands of cars were stuck in mud and snow and abandoned during the first military winter. Even all-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz L 4500A could not carry goods on the Russian off-road. So in 1943 on its base was created a half-track all-terrain vehicle Mercedes Benz L4500 R Maultier (3603 Zvezda German heavy half-track truck).
