Radar AN / TPY-2 represent vysokoposeschaemyh, phased array, radars, X-band, designed and created especially for missile defense. the Radar can be deployed in one of two modes: terminal or direct. In terminal mode, the TPY-2 radar is integrated with the THAAD system and serves as the primary sensor. In this mode, the sensor is oriented upwards to track the late stages of the missile path, allowing THAAD to intercept both outside the atmosphere and after the regenerator vehicle enters the system. This mode has a shorter range due to the radar orientation.
