Merkava is the main battle tank developed and manufactured in Israel. The first tank "Merkava Mk.1" was produced in 1979. Merkava Mk.4" has been in service since 2002. A characteristic feature of the tank is the layout with the location of the engine and transmission compartment in the front part of the body. This design solution provides additional protection for the crew. A unique feature of the tanks "Merkava" is the presence in the stern of the compartment used for the transport of troops or wounded (also in the compartment can accommodate additional ammunition).
